Citronella and Pumpkin Seed Essential Oils


Essential oils have been used for years for their cosmetic purposes as well as for their spiritually and emotionally uplifting properties. Essential oils inspire a positive emotional state and enhance one's physical wellness.

In our previous article we mentioned the benefits of Neem Oil and Eucalyptus Oil. Here we'd like to highlight two other essential oils and their various benefits.

Oil of citronella is a naturally occurring insect and animal repellent distilled from two grass varieties. It is yellow to brown and has a grassy/floral smell. Citronella oil repels target pests rather than killing them. It masks the scents that are attractive to insects. Thus, insects find it difficult to locate their target to feed.

Antibacterial: Components like methyl isoeugenol and few others found in this essential oil are responsible for this property. They kill bacteria and inhibit any bacterial growth. This helps in treating infections in wounds.

Mental Exhaustion: Citronella essential oil helps in relieving migraines, headaches and nausea. The lemon-like aroma of this oil drives away body odor and can be mixed with bath water to give a relaxing feel.

Pumpkin seed oil capsules are created by pressing roasted, hulled pumpkin seeds. The seeds of the fruit are rich sources of vitamins A, K, and E. They also contain other nutrients like omega-6 fatty acids, zinc and iron, which offer a host of benefits for the skin and hair.

Arthritis Treatment: Taking pumpkin seed oil benefits your joints and the capsules are a popular supplement for the treatment of arthritic pain. The high levels of antioxidants, fatty acids and other compounds in pumpkin seed oil help to reduce inflammation in joints for sufferers of arthritis.

Other benefits: Pumpkin seed oil has been valued important in men’s health because of it’s high zinc content which is important for prostate health. The oil also has anti-diabetic effects where the seeds may help improve insulin regulation. A mix of pumpkin seed oil with flax seeds is beneficial for the heart and liver, as well.
